Laser Resurfacing
Ablative lasers generate beams of coherent light that are absorbed by the body's tissue as energy.
The energy is delivered through a narrow range of wavelengths, and in the target area, the energy causes temperature elevation which results in tissue evaporation or ablation. Ablative lasers effectively treat a broad range of skin conditions by removing all or part of the skin. The body's natural healing processes then replace the damaged skin with new and healthy tissue. Although several types of ablative lasers exist, differing mainly by wavelength, CO2 lasers have long been considered the 'Gold Standard' for ablation, delivering an exceptional ratio between ablation and coagulation (heating tissue without evaporating it).

What Is Fractional Laser Resurfacing?
Q What Is Fractional Laser Resurfacing?
Fractional Laser Resurfacing Technology Overview
Q Fractional Laser Resurfacing Technology Overview
During fractional laser resurfacing, the UltraPulse CO2 laser is utilized to remove the outer layers of the skin and stimulate new collagen growth. Results are firmer, smoother and younger looking skin that's been restored to a healthier state. Opting for fractional laser resurfacing (dispersed laser beams allowing for less downtime) or fractionated laser resurfacing (using the full force of the laser beam) will depend on your desired needs and can be discussed during an initial consultation.
The UltraPulse CO2 laser uses high-energy beams to vaporize scars, lines, wrinkles and other skin imperfections layer by layer. This laser offers exceptional precision, control and accuracy not available with other methods. The UltraPulse CO2 laser can only be used up to the jaw line due to difficulties in healing if used on the skin on the neck; however, there are other treatments available to address the skin on the neck.
Fractional laser resurfacing is performed on an outpatient basis in an accredited and licensed ambulatory surgical center under anesthesia sedation. Patients are discharged the same day to a responsible party. You cannot drive yourself home after treatment and we advise you to arrive to the procedure with someone you know and trust.
Recovery from Fractional Laser Resurfacing
Q Recovery from Fractional Laser Resurfacing
During the first two weeks after the procedure, a significant amount of redness and weeping of the skin can be expected. An occlusive dressing must be applied for the first 6 or 7 days, and you must refrain from wearing make-up during the first couple weeks.
The skin may continue to show signs of pinkness or redness for several weeks following the treatment. We will assist you in helping to prepare the skin for treatment as well as applying camouflage make-up during the second week. Swelling may also occur and should resolve within the first couple of weeks. Sun exposure should also be avoided during the first six weeks following treatment.
Fractional Laser Resurfacing may not necessarily be the appropriate recommendation for each patient. The cost of the procedure varies depending on each individual's needs and typically ranges from $2,500 - $5,000. Please contact us to schedule your complimentary consultation for a skin assessment.
What Is Laser Eyelid Surgery?
Q What Is Laser Eyelid Surgery?
Laser eyelid surgery, also known as laser eyelid resurfacing, is a good option for those with less severe wrinkles around the eyes. Utilizing high-energy beam of the UltraPulse CO2 laser, fine wrinkles and other skin imperfections can safely and effectively be vaporized.
The skin around the eyes is prone to fine lines and wrinkles. "Crow's feet" wrinkles are a common concern of most of our patients, which radiate from the lateral corner of the eye and project a tired look. Collagen, a substance that helps keep the fine skin around the eyes plump and healthy, is stimulated by the laser to give skin suppleness and elasticity.
Recovery from Laser Eyelid Surgery
Q Recovery from Laser Eyelid Surgery
Mild swelling and bruising can occur during the immediate post-operative period of laser eyelid surgery. Discomfort is minimal and can be controlled with pain medication, although is often not needed. The area treated can remain pink or red in color for several weeks after surgery; however, we will assist you with applying camouflage make-up during the second week. Sun exposure should be avoided for at least six weeks following treatment.
If you have significant excess eyelid skin, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) may be a better option. Contact us for a complimentary consultation to determine which procedure is right for you.
If a deeper technique is used, you cannot drive home and will need assistance until the anesthesia wears off. Specific recovery instructions related to your customized laser treatment will be outlined.

Palomar Icon IPL treatments are highly effective, but your specific results will depend on the type of treatment you receive.
For most patients, within two to three weeks of the first treatment, skin will look and feel smoother, with an improved tone and texture. After additional treatments, you can expect to notice a decrease in redness, dark spots, fine lines and pore size. Freckles and age spots may appear darker at first, before fading away gradually.
