Restore your refreshed, youthful appearance with facelift surgery
As we age, our body slows its natural production of collagen and elastin - two proteins that contribute to the underlying structure, quality and resiliency of your skin. Eventually, you lose volume in your face, resulting in deep wrinkles, jowls along the jawline and a "turkey neck" - loose skin under your chin and on your neck
While all these issues are a completely natural part of growing older, it's understandable that you may feel self-conscious about your aging face and neck. However, with a facelift performed by a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, you can turn back the clock and restore the refreshed, youthful appearance you enjoyed years ago — or even address premature signs of aging before they settle in.
Facelift Before And After Photos
What Sets Dr. Sinha Apart?
Q What Sets Dr. Sinha Apart?
All facelift surgeries take place under general anesthesia with a board certified MD anesthesiologist in an accredited and licensed ambulatory surgical center next to our office. During the facelift procedure, Dr. Sinha removes excess skin and repositions sagging facial muscles to their original natural positions without overstretching or creating an "artificial" or "pulled" look. These procedures are often combined with chin liposculpture, fat transfer to revolumize certain areas of the face and laser resurfacing at proper depths to eliminate years of photoaging and color changes from sun exposure.
What is a Facelift?
Q What is a Facelift?
A facelift is a primary restorative procedure that is used to reduce visible signs of aging in the face and neck. As we get older, facial aging occurs in three ways:
- The skin begins to droop/fall
- Signs of volume loss and the appearance of "deflation" begin to appear
- Photoaging and signs of damage become more visible
In the case of skin drooping, a facelift is often the preferred method of treatment used to tighten the skin and move any falling tissue back to where it used to be.
According to WebMD, the best candidates for facelift surgery are people who have begun to show wrinkles, sagging skin and other signs of facial aging, but whose skin elasticity is still of good enough quality to allow them to bounce back from the procedure.
Additional factors that will influence your decision to get facelift surgery include:
- Loose skin on your face and neck that makes you feel self-conscious about the way you look
- You wear clothing such as turtlenecks and scarves to mask your aging neck
- When you see yourself in photos or in the mirror, your face makes you look much older than you feel
- You are concerned that your aging appearance has begun negatively affecting your career or personal relationships
During a facelift surgery, a qualified surgeon, such as Dr. Pradeep Sinha, will lift and firm the underlying facial muscles and remove excess skin, which smooths deep folds and leads to a tighter and more uplifted appearance.
Typically, facelift surgery focuses on the cheek, jowls, and neck area. However, it can also be performed in conjunction with Blepharoplasty (eye zone) and Brow Lift/Forehead Lift (forehead zone) for a total rejuvenation effect.
Understanding Your Facelift Options
Q Understanding Your Facelift Options
Aging is a threefold process that co-occurs at the surface and deeper layers of the skin.
Superficial damage such as photoaging is usually addressed with a combination of skincare and topical treatments such as lasers, microneedling and PRP. But those treatments aren't equipped to deal with the loss of volume at the deeper levels: deflation as a result of collagen loss is often treated with fillers and fat mixes.
But what about sagging, falling skin? For structural rejuvenation of the face and neck, only a proper facelift is the appropriate course of action.
Alternatives like "lunchtime lifts" and thread lifts rely on pulling the outer layer of the skin, leading to short-term results, scarring, and the distorted features once the lifting effect fades.
Unlike "lunchtime facelifts" and thread lifts, a proper facelift works at the deeper level. By pulling the deep fibrous layer (SMAS), the surgeon achieves a lift that lasts for upwards of ten years due to this tissue's inherent resistance to stretching.
Fibrous muscle layer needs to be carefully dissected from the deep muscle layer to avoid nerve injury and to pull the majority of tissue efficiently. It's a painstaking process that takes time, sharp surgical skills and years of experience. Dr. Pradeep Sinha has over thirty years of experience and is double board certified in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, as well as Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
No two facelift patients are alike, both in terms of unique facial anatomy and surgical goals. That's why there is no "cookie-cutter" approach to facelift surgery.
If you're considering getting a facelift, the first thing you should know is that there are two types: a full facelift and a mini-facelift.
Though both options involve the surgical removal of excess skin and the tightening of the facial muscles, a full facelift requires a longer incision and is a more extensive surgery. This type of facelift addresses the area just below the lower eyelid, the nasolabial folds and the jaw area.
If your primary concerns are sagging and wrinkling around your mouth and jawline, but you do not have sagging in your lower eyelid area, you may be a good candidate for a mini-facelift. A mini-facelift in Atlanta typically costs less than a full facelift and can be performed under local anesthesia.
During your consultation, you and your doctor can determine which type of facelift will suit your needs, or if a different procedure would be better for helping you meet your facial aesthetic goals.
Who Can Benefit From a Facelift Surgery?
Q Who Can Benefit From a Facelift Surgery?
Many people get a facelift for different reasons, such as:
- You have loose skin on your face and neck that makes your feel self-conscious
- You wear turtleneck sweaters and scarves to hide the skin of your neck
- You feel as though your face and neck make you look older than you truly are
- You have concern that your aging appearance may impact your career or personal relationships
- Your skin has started to wrinkle and lose elasticity
What to expect during facelift surgery?
Q What to expect during facelift surgery?
There are many doctors in Atlanta performing facelift procedures. However, only a few have the combination of art and science to achieve a truly excellent result. If you're seriously considering facelift surgery, you're likely very curious about exactly what to expect. Many people are understandably nervous when it comes to getting cosmetic surgery, especially on their face.
If you have decided to undergo a surgical procedure - especially for cosmetic reasons - it's essential to be sure you choose the best surgeon for the job.
What can a facelift do for you?
Q What can a facelift do for you?
You may wish to consider facelift surgery if you have one or more of the following concerns:
1) You have significant skin laxity and sagging.
Younger people have plenty of the so-called "building blocks" of skin -
collagen and elastin. Collagen acts like the scaffolding of your skin,
while elastin is what gives it resiliency and firmness. However, as we
age, our natural production of these two proteins diminishes
significantly, leading to loose, drooping skin. During facelift surgery,
your surgeon will remove this excess skin and tighten what remains,
leaving you with a refreshed and youthful appearance.
2) You have deep facial creases and wrinkling.
Severe facial wrinkles may also result from lost collagen and elastin.
By lifting the underlying tissue of the face, a facelift can lessen the
look of the nasolabial folds or "parentheses lines" that form between
the mouth and nose. Your skin will show fewer lines and creases as a
result.
3) You have excess skin around your neck, chin and jawline.
Excess fat and skin often accumulate around the lower face and neck area
among aging people, leading to the appearance of jowls and an overall
lack of definition along the lower jaw. By tightening lax facial tissue,
a facelift can significantly improve the appearance of your lower face,
while providing enhanced contour and tone to your jawline and neck
area.
4) You have significantly less facial volume and muscle tone than you used to.
A lack of volume and muscle tone - particularly in the mid-face area -
is another consequence of the aging process. Lifting and tightening the
underlying muscles provides them with a stronger foundation, as they
will no longer be stretched out. This process will create a fuller and
more youthful face. Adding a fat transfer procedure can further enhance
the results by filling in and supporting devolumized areas.
5) You always look fatigued, sad or angry.
The combination of lax skin and deep-set wrinkles can make you look
constantly tired, unhappy or upset, even if you're normally a cheerful
person. You may be projecting a message that you are unapproachable,
which can cause others to avoid you due to your perceived mood.
A facelift can soften your facial expressions by smoothing wrinkles and making your face appear more uplifted. Facelift surgery can help reveal your true self by showing the world how relaxed and happy you are on the inside.

What to expect during your facelift consultation?
Q What to expect during your facelift consultation?
Your consultation is your opportunity for both you and the surgeon to ask each other a list of questions and get a feel for whether you can establish a solid partnership that will help you get your ideal surgical outcome.
Be honest about why you think you need a facelift, then listen carefully while the surgeon gives you a realistic evaluation of what is possible. Bring photos of yourself from when you were younger to show how you used to look — that way, your surgeon can give you the most natural results possible. At your consultation, you and your surgeon will also discuss fees, anesthesia and any risks associated with a facelift procedure.
What does the surgery entail?
Q What does the surgery entail?
A Facelift with Dr. Sinha is performed in our state of the art on-site state licensed, Medicare-certified and AAAHC accredited ambulatory surgery center in Atlanta. Equipped with the most advanced medical devices, our boutique practice caters to one patient at a time, for a fully personalized experience.
It typically takes between three to five hours to perform; longer if you choose to have additional procedures performed at the same time. During your facelift, you will have a team of board-certified MD anesthesiologists, Registered Nurses and certified surgical scrub technologists entirely focused on your procedure.
Dr. Sinha will work meticulously to execute the incisions as deftly as possible. Dr. Sinha's signature hidden incisions are done "inside ear", in the grooves in front of and behind the ear and in the naturally occurring fold under the chin. These strategic incisions ensure that there's almost no visible lines after healing. For the smoothest results, Dr. Sinha never performs long cuts in visible areas behind the ear or into the temple area.
In the simplest possible terms, a facelift surgeon will loosen the facial skin from the underlying fat and muscle, tighten the muscles underneath which pulls up lax and droopy facial structures and then re-drape the skin, trimming off excess tissue before suturing it into place.
What is the recovery from a facelift like?
Q What is the recovery from a facelift like?
The average recovery time from a full facelift is 10-14 days, while a mid-facelift can be a little shorter. It is normal for your face to be swollen, sore, tender, and bruised for several days after the procedure. Swelling will be at its worst three days after surgery.
When you leave the office, your face will be bandaged with dressings that you will wear for the first days after surgery. Sutures are often removed during the second-week post-op.Want to know more about the facelift recovery process?
Are there any activity restrictions to expect with this procedure?
Q Are there any activity restrictions to expect with this procedure?
You cannot drive yourself home after having a facelift. There may be mild bruising or discoloration for a week or two following the procedure. Swelling is also common and should resolve within the first few weeks.
You will need to rest and take it easy after your surgery although light activity such as walking is encouraged. Depending on how extensive your facelift was and how strenuous your job is, you can expect to return to work about a week to 10 days after your surgery.
If you still have some residual bruising at this point, you can conceal it with makeup. With your facelift surgeon's permission, you should be able to resume most of your normal daily routine after two to three weeks.
Is facelift surgery safe?
Q Is facelift surgery safe?
Facelift surgeries have a long-standing track record of being safe and effective. As a prevalent surgery done over 127,000 times in America alone in 2017, choosing a well-trained and experienced surgeon is the best way to ensure good results.
All surgeries have risks. Some common risks of facelift surgery include infections, hematoma/bruising, and possible nerve damage. All risks will be discussed with you at your consultation appointment by your chosen surgeon.
How do I choose the best surgeon for my facelift?
Q How do I choose the best surgeon for my facelift?
Facelift surgery is a highly complex procedure that requires a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy and a specific skill set, in addition to a highly developed eye for aesthetic detail. Not all physicians who practice cosmetic surgery are trained to perform facelifts, which is one reason it's so essential to do plenty of research before choosing a facelift surgeon.
Dr. Sinha is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon and ENT surgeon (ear, nose, and throat surgeon). He has completed over 10,000 procedures throughout his successful career, and he prides himself on providing outstanding results and excellent patient care.
