When you look in the mirror every day, are you satisfied with what you see? You may have suddenly started noticing wrinkles, dark spots or an uneven skin tone that was never there before.
If you’re looking for solutions for smoother, clearer skin, you may be excited to learn that there are several ways to minimize blemishes, treat sun damage and restore a clearer and more youthful complexion without the need for surgery.
What Is Skin Resurfacing?
As we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity and become more fragile. Skin resurfacing treatments help reverse signs of aging caused by sun damage, toxins and stress, helping you look subtly younger and restoring skin’s healthy glow.
Unfortunately, most of the skin damage you notice in your 30s , 40s and 50s took place when you were in your teens and 20s. While we may not be able to stop time, we can help turn back the clock on your prematurely aging skin.
Skin resurfacing treatments help restore a more youthful complexion by removing damaged outer layers of skin to reveal the healthier-looking skin beneath, while simultaneously encouraging new skin cells to grow. These non-surgical treatments are designed to renew and revitalize skin with minimal downtime for recovery.
At our Atlanta cosmetic surgery practice, we use a variety of skin resurfacing techniques to address our patients’ skin concerns.
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a topical aesthetic procedure designed to refresh the surface of your skin, and reduce the appearance of aging, scarring and other facial flaws.
During a chemical peel, we smooth a layer of an acid-based solution onto your skin, which causes the damaged outer layers of skin to peel off. Your skin’s natural healing process causes new cells to form, leading to smoother, tighter and younger-looking skin.
We can perform a chemical peel on your face, neck, chest, hands, arms or legs to address the following issues:
● Dark spots
● Fine lines and wrinkles
● Acne scars and other blemishes
● Rough or scaly patches of skin
● Sun damage
● Uneven skin pigmentation
Chemical peels come in light, medium and deep strengths. The deeper the peel, the more dramatic the results and the longer the recovery time. Depending on the skin issues you want to correct, we will consult with you and recommend the peel treatment that is best for your skin type and the results you are hoping to achieve.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion treatment is a popular and effective way to help reduce or eliminate wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, light acne scarring, undesired pigmentation and other imperfections that may appear on the skin as a result of aging.
Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses a special tool to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells. The technique also encourages the production of a new underlying layer of skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, which results in smoother and more youthful-looking skin.
We can use microdermabrasion on your face, neck, chest, arms, elbows, knees or hands to:
● Rejuvenate dull, leathery skin
● Smooth fine lines and wrinkles
● Correct age spots, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation
● Reduce or eliminate enlarged pores and blemishes
● Lessen the appearance of stretch marks
● Remove blackheads and whiteheads
We can complete a typical microdermabrasion session in less than an hour in our Atlanta office. Following treatment, no downtime is necessary. You should be able to return to work and your normal activities immediately after the procedure. Depending on your desired results, we usually recommend four to six treatment sessions spaced one to two weeks apart.
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a safe and highly effective exfoliation technique for facial skin. Dermaplaning relies on the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently “shave” off the skin’s surface, removing the top layer of dead skin, along with the fine hairs typically known as “peach fuzz.” This treatment option results in healthier, brighter skin that has a smoother look and feel.
Dermaplaning is only suitable for use on the face. However, it has proven to be one of the best ways to prevent acne breakouts, treat acne scars, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improve the appearance of pores and create a more even skin tone and texture.
Dermaplaning is especially effective on people who have developed a dry or rough skin texture. Dermaplaning can also be an excellent alternative treatment for patients with rosacea, broken capillaries or sensitive skin who cannot tolerate chemical peels or microdermabrasion. We recommend monthly procedures, which take 30 minutes or less and require no post-treatment recovery time.
SilkPeel
The SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion skin care procedure is designed to immediately improve the appearance of skin in just one treatment.
Similar to microdermabrasion and dermaplaning, the SilkPeel® treatment is an exfoliation technique that removes outer layers of skin. However, the SilkPeel® treatment relies on various treatment serums that have been specially formulated to treat specific skin conditions.
We can use the SilkPeel® treatment on your face, neck, chest, hands, feet, and other areas of your body to:
● Treat oily or acne-prone skin
● Hydrate dry skin
● Minimize the appearance of wrinkles
● Reduce the appearance of age and sun spots
In addition to exfoliating the outer layers of the skin by removing dead skin cells, the SilkPeel® hand tool saturates the skin with the treatment solution. The serums used in SilkPeel® penetrate deeply into the skin, infusing it with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and increasing the effectiveness of treatment.
The procedure takes about 30 minutes, is painless and requires no downtime. For the best possible results, patients can schedule monthly SilkPeel® treatments.
